SafeText.ie is a text message reminder service for women using oral contraception. We want do the thinking for our users, reminding them to take their oral contraception at the correct time each day.
We surveyed over 500 female students and found that 64% of females forget to take their pill at least once every cycle, while 15% miss their pill more than three times in any one cycle. This is a worrying indication that the pill is not being used safely. By signing up to SafeText, women who choose to take oral contraception will be reminded to do so effectively each day
Our aim is to be providers of a text message reminder service that promotes the health and well-being of our female users. Our hope is that this service will lower the need for emergency contraception, lower the amount of unplanned pregnancies and reduce the number of woman seeking abortions each year. We will provide a reliable and efficient service that protects the personal data entrusted to us in order to create long term benefits for all our users.

History of the Project
The SafeText™ project began in September 2009 and was set up by two students based in Dublin.
The idea came about when one of those students got speaking with a local GP after she attended a conference about oral contraception. They discussed the issues women faced in taking the pill and how poor adherence could lead to very serious problems. They realised that this was a problem facing women not only in Ireland but indeed all over the world. This student figured there had to be an easy way to improve adherence to the pill.
After carrying out diligent research and talking to doctors and women, these two students decided that surely the most effective way of reminding women to take their pill was to send them a daily text message at their specified time each day.
The pair worked throughout the year to make this service possible and on the 13th September 2010, SafeText™ launched its service to the public, equipped and ready to take Ireland and the world by storm!
